Rococo

Referred as Late Baroque which is an 18th century that gave up their symmetry and become increasingly more orate, florid and playful.Rococo rooms were designed as total works of art with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, ornamental mirrors, and tapestry complementing architecture, reliefs, and wall paintings.

Fauvism

Fauvism is a style of les fauves (French for wild beast). Its a short lived and loose group of early 20th century modern artist whose work emphasized painterly qualities and strong colour over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism.

Photorealism

Photorealism is the genre of painting based on using the camera and photographs to gather information and then from this information by creating a painting that appears to be very realistic. The term is applied to paintings from the United States Art Movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Less is More

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music. It is rooted in aspects of Modernism and is often interpreted as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism.

American Gothic

American Gothic by Grant Wood 1930

I did not know that the man and woman in this painting was father and daughter. Woods inspiration came from a cottage designed in the Gothic Revival. He painted the house along with the kind of people he thought should lived there.

Famous Painting

Edvard Munch is the artist of this famous expressionist painting. He has painted several different versions of this painting. The Munch Museum holds one of two painted versions and one pastel version. The National Gallery of Norway holds the other painted version and the fourth one, in pastel, is owned by Petter Olsen.

Whats the difference?

Whats the difference between Impressionism and Expressionism?

Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali is one of my favorite surrealist artist. I just like his whole style but his famous painting, The Persistence of Memory is one of my favorites. However, I did learn that the interpretation of the painting is that the soft watches are a rejection of the assumption that time is rigid.

Tonalism

I've never heard of Tonalism. Tonalism is an artistic style that emerged somewhere in the 1800s when American artist began to paint landscape forms. An overall tone of atmosphere or mist colors. Dark, Neutral hues, like gray, brown or blue.

Something new I learned today...

The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)

Today, I learned that this well known painting was categorized as Expressionism Art. I've always found this painting interesting though. Van Gogh suffered from anxiety and mental illness. He died at the age of 37. Vincent Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 artworks: 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches. Today many of his pieces are among the world's most recognizable and expensive works of art.

Abstract Art

I really find Abstract Art interesting. The use of its colors and shapes really make the artwork eye catching and pleasing to the eye. It's meant to grab your attention and keep your mind thinking.  Whats you thoughts or views on Abstract Art?

Urban Art

Urban Art, often called "graffiti", is a style of art that relates to cities and city life often done by artist who live in or have passion for city life. Urban Art also known as street art, is sometimes viewed as vandalism and a destruction of property. Some band members use graffiti to promote their band.  Urban Art can be also be used for ad campaigns, promoting products or services. This style of art in general is expressed at neighborhood level, sometimes called "hoods" or "ghettos" where a lot of people of different cultures live together.

What does Art mean to you?

To me,
Art is a form of expression. It allows an opportunity for the artist to express their thoughts and feelings. Art comes in many different forms, styles and genres. Music, literature, film, photography, sculpture and paintings are all examples of the many different types of art. An Artist is an individual who possesses a level of creativity that allows them to think in ways that some could never imagine. The most dominant aspects of creativity is identified as the four "Ps": process, product, person and place. Art is made with the intentions of stimulating thoughts and emotions. Traditionally, the term "art" was used to refer to any skill or mastery. Art has had a great number of different expressions throughout its history. What does Art mean to you?
